本種はこれまで群馬県と山梨県のやや高地から記録されているが、山地に広く分布すると思われる。成虫は5~6月にカツラの葉に見られる。シキミに見られるS. illiciiによく似るが、腹部腹板の微刺がS1刺毛まで十分に分布することで識別できる。
This species has been recorded from mountainous area of Gunma Prefecture and Yamanashi Prefecture at central Honshu so far. It occurs on the leaves of Cercidiphyllum japonicum in May to Jun. It is very similar to S. illicii, which occurs on Illicium anisatum, but it can be distinguished from the latter species by microtrichia on abdominal sternites are fully developed outside of S1 setae.
